'Joran misled by his own lawyer'

Joran van der Sloot is being misled by his own attorney. Therefore In the upcoming trial he needs to withdraw his confession of the murder of Stephany Flores. This is according to the lawyers who recently put in a complaint with the Inter-American Human Rights Commission, on his behalf.

Maximo Altez and Aldo Cotrina believe the judge will find Joran not-guilty, as a result of the irregularities that have taken place in the case before and after his arrest, on June 3th, 2010.
Cotrina states that Joran's trial lawyer, Jose Jimenez, has incorrectly decided he has to hold on to his confession. Joran favours this, because it will fasten up his trial, and could give him the possibility to sit out his jailterm in Holland.

Only two weeks ago the two sollicitors visited Joran, in order to convince him to withdraw the confession. Cotrina: 'We don't agree with Joran confessing. We believe he is being misled by his own lawyer.'

Altez was Joran's lawyer earlier, after his arrest for the murder of the 21 year old Peruvian. He quit defending him in August 2010, after conflicts about payments and the strategy in the case. He continued advising Joran in the human rights complaint, that claims an unjust extradition of Joran to Peru by Chile, and an illegal role of the unofficial Dutch translator in the case. In Joran's name the lawyers want 50 million dollars of the Peruvian state.
Van der Sloots court case is due to start this Friday. The trial will be held at a prison in Peru. Joran is still also prime suspect in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway.
